Google Photos seems to be broken for many users after Apple’s latest iOS 16.3.1 update. Multiple Forget employees, as well people on Twitterreport that the app crashes on launch, making it impossible to access or manage your Google Photos library.
Although the problem is not universal – a few people, myself included, say they can open Google Photos just fine – the crashing still seems to be relatively widespread. Other Google apps, such as Gmail, Google Drive, and Google Maps all seem to work fine.
It is currently unclear what could be causing the problem and why it only affects certain people. The iOS update (which may or may not have caused the problem) is supposedly relatively minor; According to Apple’s release notes, it’s mainly intended to fix bugs and some security issues.
Google is aware of the issue and is “rolling out a fix in version 6.23.1 of the Google Photos app,” said Michael Marconi, a company spokesperson.
