It’s only taken decades, but the movie and TV industry is finally doing their best to crack the code to make good game-to-movie/series adaptations. And maybe there was something in the water this week, because I feel like I’ve been hearing about more new projects than usual. We’re getting a God of War series, a Death Stranding movie, and a Warhammer 40,000 series (or possibly a movie; they weren’t entirely clear). This is in addition to the existing projects we already knew about, such as the upcoming Mario movie and Last of Us shows. Heck, the Dragon Age Netflix series just premiered as well.
The battle between Sony and Microsoft, now complicated by various regulatory bodies, continues. New reports suggest that Microsoft’s offer to promise Call of Duty to Sony on paper included streaming options. This would suggest that PlayStation would rather continue with this argument that games start releasing on PS Plus at launch. I don’t know what to care about in this discussion anymore.
Amazon Games announced this week that it will be releasing the new Tomb Raider game. I am very happy with the confirmation that we shall to get the game and Tomb Raider wasn’t lost in the Square Enix-Embracer shuffle. As for other upcoming titles, we’ve got more Hogwarts Legacy footage this week. I’m still not sure if I’m excited about it or not. Anyway, I hope it’s interesting.
In other news, it feels like most of the gaming industry is starting to close stores this year. Most of the big game releases for the year have happened and companies are releasing their year end wraps. I’m preparing to do the same, honestly. It’s been a wild year so far, but we can talk more about that in the coming weeks. Until then, I’m going to play some Crisis Core and relax. I’m probably going to watch some Dragon Age too.
