Microsoft Azure OpenAI Service debuted in November 2021
Microsoft’s Azure OpenAI service debuted in November 2021 by invitation. According to a press statement, companies have used the service to apply advanced use cases such as customer support, customization, and gaining insights from data using search, data extraction, and classification.

Azure is also the main compute power behind the OpenAI API family of models. In December 2022, Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI tweeted: “Microsoft, and especially Azure, don’t get nearly enough credit for the stuff OpenAI is launching. they do an amazing job of getting it done; we are very grateful for the cooperation.
