Last week we finally closed out 2022, a chaotic year by any yardstick. Since this week has been relatively slow (for me, since I wasn’t at CES), and to keep things light-hearted, let’s talk about what we’ll be doing as gamers in 2023. I’ll start – here are the things that I plan to do this year to improve myself as a gamer and writer.
First resolution: I’ll try to work through it at least my backlog of 2022. If you read my list from last week, you’ll know there are several titles from 2022 that I haven’t been able to play. But last year I also had annoying personal things to do, like getting married, which might have reduced my playing time. So let’s see if we can’t chisel more of that this year to finally play The Mortuary Assistant. Okay, I’m kidding, but seriously, I don’t like missing big games. It reduces my literacy as a game writer and gives me FOMO.
Second resolution: I’m going to try to be a more social gamer this year. It’s time to finally step out of the pandemic shelter. I will try to post more about what I play on social media and I will also try to stream. I will too- shiver – try playing more multiplayer titles. I like the gaming community. That’s how I met the other half of the marriage mentioned above. So I would like to destroy my mortification and enjoy gamer company again.
That’s all I have (at least as far as gaming is concerned), but if anyone else makes any game-related resolutions, feel free to message me on twitter. You might as well get started right away with the second resolution.
On a (more) personal note, I’m already making some progress in compiling my games list for 2023. I know of at least one new game that launched on New Year’s Day. MDNA Games, the creators of the Carol Reed series (one of the indie-est of indie games), has released its latest entry: The Game Maker. I don’t expect everyone to enjoy his style of play, but so far my year has started well.
