Google is introducing a new widget for its notes and lists app Keep, which lets you place a single interactive note on your home screen. This allows you to check items off a list, which can be useful for a to-do list or shopping list.
While you can force any of Keep’s current widgets to display just one note using the tagging system, it’s not as easy as just selecting one to display on your home screen. In addition, Keep’s existing widgets don’t have the level of interactivity that Google promises with its new widget; trying to check boxes just opens the app instead of actually checking them off like the single note widget.
Of course, many dedicated to-do list apps let you manage tasks using a widget. However, it’s nice to see Google putting some thought into Keep and adding an obvious feature to it.
Google also says new Keep complications are coming for Wear OS 3 and above, which will act as shortcuts to note-taking and to-do lists.
The company hasn’t said exactly when these features will roll out, only that it will be “soon”, so keep (ha) your eyes on it.
