Amazon lays off another 9,000 workers according to a memo to employees CEO Andy Jassy sent a message to employees on Monday. The employees affected by the cut include those with positions in AWS, Twitch, advertising, and human resources.

In his memo, Jassy cites the “uncertain economy” as the reason for the cuts, saying the company has “chosen to streamline our costs and workforce more.” Amazon just finished laying off a total of 18,000 people across the company late last year and in January, including employees in its hardware and services, human resources and retail teams.

“The key premise of our annual planning this year was to be leaner and do it in a way that allows us to still invest robustly in the key long-term customer experiences that we believe will change the lives of customers and improve Amazon as a whole in a meaningful way. Jassy writes in the memo.

Jassy also explains that the company did not announce all layoffs at the same time because some teams did not complete their internal analyzes at the same time.
