Is Take Me to Hozier’s Church a gay or straight song? – business kinda

Take me to Hozier’s Church can be about many things: religion, love or sexuality. The lyrics are so vague that they can be interpreted in different ways. This has led some people to wonder if the number is about a gay manlove for another man. However, there is no clear evidence for this interpretation. The lyrics could just as easily be about a straight man’s love for a woman. That’s why we can’t say for sure whether Take Me to Church is a gay or straight song.

In Take Me to Church, Hozier criticizes legalistic churches and gay and lesbianism. For myself, a queer Christian, it has been a long process to reach this point of complete acceptance and reconciliation of these two aspects of my life. At the age of 16 I was in a state of ongoing homophobia. When Take Me to Church first came out, I was hooked. When I was in college, I was surprised to learn that a community that had shown me nothing but love could be so cruel to me. My conversion to the Episcopal Church was one of the first big steps I took as part of my new worldview after college. When I first heard “Take Me to Church,” the song about my conversion to Christianity, I was surprised.

I liked the song and video at the time, but it was awful after that, and I listened to it so much that summer and fall that I hated it. After doing something I once considered an abomination, I came across the text again. I could say that everything hasn’t changed, but I’ve lost so many privileges since I went from heterosexual to lesbian. There’s no point in arguing, because you’re just dividing. Love is an expression that remains. I was homophobic once, but then I didn’t hear about it. When it comes to same-sex relationships, there is no greater or lesser bad fruit than straight relationships.

Compared to gay and straight couples I know, including ours, one thing stands out: the gender of one partner. It’s strange to realize how similar my life is now to it was when I first started out as one LGBTQ person. I wore a mask to hide my true self, and they loved me not for who I was, but for who they thought I was. I’ve lost loved ones for no reason other than being a lesbian. We are reduced by those in power to nothing more than our sexuality and/or gender identity.

The protagonist in Take Me to Church refers to his partner as a religion, implying that the concept is allegory. Hozier wrote the song as a result of his frustration with the Catholic Church, which he saw as dominating Ireland’s social and political outlook as a protestant quaker to grow up.

There is no definitive answer to this question, as Hozier’s views on religion are personal and private. However, based on his lyrics and interviews, it seems that he is not religious in the traditional sense. Instead, he appears to be more spiritual, believing in a higher power, but not necessarily espousing any specific religion. This ambiguity likely reflects the complex and often confusing nature of the belief, something Hozier has said he is still exploring. Whether or not Hozier is religious is ultimately a matter of interpretation.
