Police say a former Walmart employee shot and wounded a former co-worker Thursday night at the Evansville, Indiana, store where he had worked. According to a press conference held by authorities on Friday, the 25-year-old man armed with a rifle walked into a regular team meeting and ordered a group of about a dozen people to form a line against a wall.
Evansville police chief Billy Bolin informed reporters that the night shift supervisor escaped the room when the gunman, later identified as Ronald Ray Mosley, turned his back and called 911. Bolin claimed the gunman then shot a woman and fled the scene.
According to Bolin, the team leader saw the gunman leave the break room where the meeting was taking place and come back to treat the injured woman. According to the chief, she hid the victim after helping him to another room, locking the door behind them and turning off the lights. Again the shooter entered the break room.

“I have no doubt he went back to finish what he started, and we would probably have a dead victim today instead of a living one,” said Bolin. On Friday, authorities held a press conference where they revealed grainy body camera footage of police officers confronting the gunman at the store and setting him ablaze, ultimately resulting in his death.
Sergeant Anna Gray, a police spokesman, told reporters Thursday evening that “There were several times he actually shot at cops before they could actually shoot him,The chief stated that a suicide note was found in the suspect’s house after the shooting.
says Bolin“He absolutely intended to die last night, and added, “and it’s really sad when you hear about someone being in that condition, and at the same time it makes you angry. Gray estimated there were about 40 customers in the store at the time of the incident. She also said about 40 Walmart employees were in attendance. No one else was hurt that anyone knew.
Vanderburgh County Attorney Diana Moers said the shooter was in court on Thursday. As part of his treatment in a mental health court, after pleading guilty to four battery charges related to an incident involving his colleagues last year, he was required to report to authorities every two weeks, Moers said.
The prosecutor stated she was unable to reveal the nature of the shooter’s mental health therapy. The Walmart statement read: “The entire Walmart family is shocked by the senseless violence that took place at our Evansville store, and our hearts are with our employee at this time. As we learn more, we will do everything we can to support our employees as they process this tragedy.” On November 23, the manager of a Walmart entered ChesapeakeVirginia, brought a firearm into the store, killed six customers and staff before committing suicide.
