New year, same Netflix. The first month of 2023 brings the streaming service’s usual mix of accessible original comedy and streaming service drama series and moviesdocumentaries, children’s stuff, culinary competitions and international dishes, along with a handful of promising titles.
On January 1, Kaleidoscope, an experimental drama series about robberies, will premiere. After that, there are notable new releases, including two very various period pieces: the lavish 19th century mystery film The Pale Blue Eye, starring Christian Bale and Gillian Anderson, and That ’90s Show, a sequel to the long-running sitcom That ’70s Show, also starring Christian Bale and Gillian Anderson (jk).
In terms of licensed content, notable additions are Love Island USA season 2 (season 1 of the horny reality series debuted on Netflix in November and December), the popular animated family movie Minions: The Rise of Gru, the final season of The Walking Dead, and the 2004 movie Closer, in which Clive Owen insults Jude Law by calling him a “writer” as if it were the worst thing someone may be possible.
