Following on from the success of the VR title The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners, Chapter 2: Retribution brings some new toys for players. While watching a hands-off preview of the game, I noticed some of the new changes in action, including the addition of that main zombie/walker-killing tool: the chainsaw.

Chapter 2 is a direct sequel to the original game, set in New Orleans, specifically the French Quarter. In addition to the aforementioned implement, players can also use a sawed-off shotgun and a submachine gun. Does it matter that in practice the chainsaw is an impractical weapon at best? Not in the least. Although I couldn’t try it myself, I was told that the chainsaw would give the player haptic feedback on usage – possibly even getting stuck in the walkers.

The new game also gives players the ability to pursue missions at night, despite the dangers, using torches and UV lamps. It also introduces bosses to battle, as well as extensive crafting and new NPCs you can interact with.

As far as VR titles go, the new chapter looks like a nice addition to the roster, though it might not be enough to offset Meta’s price hike to the Quest 2, for which it’s launching later this year. It will be more interesting to see it on the new PS VR2, which will be launched early next year.
