Twitter is up and down, with error messages and other outage-like issues

If you’re having trouble tonight while trying to use Twitter, you’re not alone. Dozens of users report various errors, saying they get messages that they’ve exceeded their speed limit, that the site appears to be completely broken, or that they can’t retrieve new tweets.

down detector. com shows a peak of about 10,000 outage reports for Twitter, with reports starting just after 7:30 p.m. ET.

Hereby The edge, we have several instances of sudden account logout from the desktop site. When I click the login button, the site just refreshes without asking me for a username or password – or crashes and displays an error.

The mobile app still seems to work for me, but it doesn’t for at least one of my colleagues. In the past thirty minutes, the problems have varied, disappeared and reappeared, with no end in sight.

Many users (myself included) have reported seeing some issues with the service since Musk laid off much of the company’s workforce earlier this year. Contrary to some predictions, the site has remained largely up and running ever since, even during events like the World Cup or during Elon’s self-reported instances of disconnecting “one of the more sensitive server racks”.

Now that it seems to have hit a snag, the question becomes how quickly it will be able to recover. Of course, Twitter has always had some instability, although it would be a shame to go back to the bad old days of the failed whale.

The company did not respond to a request for comment from The edgebut it is widely reported to have disbanded its news agency.
