Ubisoft held its Forward event in 2022, which, among other things, revealed the future of the Assassin’s Creed franchise. The company revealed that it is working on several new Assassin’s Creed titles, including at least one that will take the series to a much sought-after location: Feudal Japan.

It also provided a few updates on its non-game projects, including the mysterious Assassin’s Creed Infinity. This will become an AC hub for fans and may eventually become the ship of standalone multiplayer titles, although we have no further details on that.

On to the next adventure

The company has already announced the next main game: Assassin’s Creed Mirage, a new story set in Baghdad that takes the series back to its roots. The new title has received the most attention as it will launch in 2023 and is currently available for pre-order.

Of all the new content that Ubisoft has revealed, the latest DLC for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is the only one besides Mirage with a release window. It will launch later this year and will wrap up the final threads of Eivor’s story. At least, it’s supposedly the last DLC, as it’s called “The Last Chapter”.

In addition to the above, Ubisoft also reminded everyone that it has a Netflix live-action series in development. It is working on a mobile title for Netflix’s game board, as well as a documentary about the making of the series.

So many code names

Ubisoft revealed the three upcoming titles currently in development under codenames. The first to show it off is “Codename Jade”, a new Assassin’s Creed mobile game. According to the developers, this will be a full-fledged open world AC game, but optimized for mobile. It takes place in China and players can customize their Assassin.

Perhaps the most intriguing new title is ‘Codename Red’. The developers didn’t say much about this, but there was no need to. All they said was that it’s set in feudal Japan, and that’s enough. Fans have been asking for a Japanese AC for over ten years and they are finally getting their wish.

The last new title to be revealed was something called ‘Codename Hexe’. All Ubisoft showed was a short teaser trailer featuring the Assassins symbol made of sticks. It seems to be in a swamp. The creators suggested that there are several secrets hidden in the teaser, but I couldn’t discern them. I look forward to the speculation from the fans.
