Apple has made a notable hire that could indicate it plans to move to advertising on Apple TV Plus. The company has hired advertising director Lauren Fry to “help build a video advertising business for its Apple TV Plus streaming service,” according to The information.
Currently, Apple TV Plus is only available with a paid subscription which has recently become more expensive, so an ad-supported tier that is presumably cheaper could be a way for Apple to attract new subscribers. At the moment, having an ad-supported tier of a streaming service is pretty common – Netflix and Disney Plus got them last year, while HBO Max’s ad plan launched in June 2021 – and taking on Fry, it seems that Apple moves forward with plans to eventually run ads alongside shows like Ted Lasso And Dismissal.
Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
