Apple lets you sign in with an iPhone if you’re running the iOS 17 beta

Looks like access keys are now supported for Apple IDsbut only if you have the first beta for iOS 17 (or iPadOS 17 or macOS Sonoma). Beta users of Apple’s operating systems will then have the option to sign in anywhere that supports logging in with your Apple ID – not just Apple. com And iCloud. combut also anywhere your Apple account is linked – without passwords, with just the biometric data on their iPhone or MacBook and a dream.

It works wherever logging in with your Apple ID is supported. For example, if I want to log into Reddit and view my favorite John Oliver-themed subreddits, I can tap the “Continue with Apple” button on the login screen and I’ll be given the option to log in by scanning a QR code with my iPhone.

The feature seems to work on any Apple device – I was able to successfully use a password on Chrome, Safari, and Arc. When trying on a Windows PC in Chrome, the same ‘Sign in with iPhone’ button appeared, but the request expired when I scanned the QR code. On an Android phone, I didn’t see the button at all.

Once you create the passcode on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac, it will sync across all of your Apple devices so that any of them can use the biometric logins set up on that system to sign in with your Apple ID. Since passkeys aren’t the exclusive domain of Apple, once it’s fully launched you should also be able to generate them on non-Apple devices to sign in with your Apple ID without a password, using Android or Windows using from Chrome or Edge browser, each of which supports passkeys.
