Apple Arcade is getting a remake of Game Freak’s Pocket Card Jockey

Game Freak is perhaps best known as the developers of pokemonbut in a surprise early 2023, one of the few non-pokemon games is getting a refreshed new release for apple devices. Pocket Card Jockey: Drive On!a remake of the 3DS title Pocket card jockeycoming to iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple TV via Apple Arcade on January 20.

Pocket card jockey is a “solitaire and horse racing hybrid,” writes Game Freak about the game App Store listing. “Concentrate your mind and clear cards with consecutive numbers in quick succession. The more cards you clear, the better your horse’s mood will be, allowing them to recharge energy during races!”

I admit I’ve never played the original, and I don’t quite get it, even after watching a video on the game’s App Store page or a trailer for the original. But back in 2016, my colleague Andrew Webster said that once you get the hang of the weird concept, the game becomes “nearly impossible to put down, because you just know you could do better next time.

Currently, Pocket Card Jockey is only available through the Nintendo 3DS eShop. But with that digital store closing in March, this new version comes just in time for new players to discover the game, even if they can’t get it on the 3DS anymore.

Apple also announced some additional titles heading to Apple Arcade, the subscription service that already includes access to more than 200 games. Episode XOXO, a new installment in the interactive storytelling series will be available on Friday. Illustrateda new puzzle game that ‘mixes’ word and jigsaw puzzles will be released on January 13.
