Anthropic, backed by Google, launches Claude, an AI chatbot that makes talking easier

Anthropic, the artificial intelligence company founded by ex-OpenAI employees, has its AI chatbot, Claude. While the tool does much of what OpenAI’s ChatGPT can do, Anthropic says the early customers report that the tool is “less likely to produce malicious output” and “easier to talk to”.

Like OpenAI, Anthropic also has great technical backing: Google invested $300 million in Anthropic in February. The company’s chatbot – similar to ChatGPT – can provide summaries, answer questions, provide writing assistance, and generate code. You can also customize the chatbot’s tone, personality, and behavior, which sounds a bit more elaborate than the “creative, balanced, and precise” settings that Bing’s chatbot offers.

Overall, Anthropic’s goal is to develop an AI assistant that is “helpful, fair, and harmless.” It also doesn’t have internet access, as Anthropic says it’s designed to be “self-contained.”
