With its latest release, Break Point, Netflix aims to build on the huge popularity of Formula 1’s Drive To Survive series. The new docuseries follows several tennis players on the ATP and WTA tours and offers viewers a behind-the-scenes look at what it’s like for those who compete to be the best player in the world.
However, episode 5 of BreakPoint closes with a teaser “Later This Season,” leaving fans impatient to wonder when part 2 would be released after introducing them to characters like Nick Kyrgios and Paula Badosa in some of the earlier episodes.

Paul Martin says Break Point shows the dark side of tennis
The show’s executive producer Paul Martin spoke to Esquire about BreakPoint ahead of the docuseries’ debut. He claimed that tennis is one of the most demanding sports and that he and fellow EP James Gay-Rees had previously vowed to expose the dark side of the sport if given the chance. Thank goodness Netflix gave them the chance.
Paul also discussed the misconceptions surrounding tennis: “People think of tennis as this genteel game that wears the white and it’s strawberries and whipped cream,” he said. ‘And isn’t it all so graceful? No. It’s nasty, tennis. And it’s hard.”
“We sat down and interviewed probably 25 players at the Australian Open last year.” he added. “And every one of them we did, James and I came out and said, ‘I don’t know why they’re doing it. I really don’t know what the benefit is. Because that looks like torture.’”

Paul later said that despite growing up playing sports, he never set foot on a tennis court. Why is that? He immediately said: “Well, ‘Tennis would have destroyed me. Tennis would only have made me mentally unstable.”
Paul later said that he grew up playing sports, but never got on the tennis court – why is that? Well, he quickly admitted, “Tennis would have destroyed me. Tennis would have destroyed me mentally.”
James told the outlet, “Tennis is an unforgiving world. It’s hard to get into the top 100 or the top 10 and stay there. And because of its individual character, it is not a nice, easy option.” He also noted, “There is nowhere to hide in tennis. You’re alone there. You travel alone. You are alone in hotel rooms.”
