After searching fruitlessly all day for a missing child in a stolen car, two Indianapolis police officers went to lunch to collect their thoughts. On December 22, police arrested a lady they believe stole a black 2010 Honda Accord, but the car was still missing. Baby Kason Thomass, who was in the car with his twin brother Kyair Thomass when it was taken three days earlier in Columbus, Ohio, remained missing.
Sergeant Shawn Anderson of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department told CNN partner WISH TV, “It was time for us to unpack because we were disappointed that we couldn’t find him.” The sky suddenly opened up and God almost snatched him from our grasp. Anderson and Sgt. Richard El had stopped at a Papa John’s in the same square where the stolen vehicle was parked. Inside was where Kason was located. The child, then five months old, had been gone for about three days and had been left alone for most of that time.
“When we found him, he was cold, true, but he was awake, he was breathing, he was moving a little,” El told WBNS-TV. His gaze seemed unfocused as if trying to take it all in. According to the station’s report, Kason’s family stated that he was doing as well as could be expected given the circumstances.. Grandma LaFonda Thomass, the mother of the twins, was shocked to hear the news.
‘This will be the best Christmas ever’ she said WBNS TV. “I’m so excited. It’s a miracle.” While their mother was picking up a DoorDash order in Columbus on the evening of December 19, Kason and Kyair Thomass were left in the moving vehicle. The twins and the car were reported missing when she got back to Columbus.
In the early hours of December 20, authorities reported finding Kyair near Dayton International Airport. It took days, but Kason was finally found near Indianapolis, about 170 miles from where he had been abducted.
Nalah Jackson, 24, was a suspect and was being held for extradition to Columbus, where she faces two counts of criminal kidnapping. The court’s online file shows that a warrant for Jackson’s arrest has been issued by the Franklin County Court. According to online court documents, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office also charged Jackson with a battery of bodily waste.
