Career
Firearms Specialist
In 2002, Stephanie Hayden began working as a manager at Red Jacket Firearms Inc, a retail store dedicated to selling custom weapons to security forces and corporations. The store was found in 1999 by Stephanie’s father and former Commissioner Will Hayden. As the store proved successful from the start, Will sold his other refrigeration business to devote himself entirely to his new business.
Despite its success, Red Jacket Firearms faced several legal issues.
In 2009, according to an ATF (Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms) inspection, the store failed to take into account ten weapons registered in its database; this prompted Stephanie and Will Hayden to give up their arms manufacturer licenses.
Red Jacket Inc’s attorney stated that the missing firearms were not misplaced, instead two were stolen and the rest discarded due to various mistakes committed by the store’s gunsmiths. However, because of Hayden not tracking weapons serial numbers after legal requirements, the store was eventually shut down.
This did not deter Stephanie and her father as they promptly started a new company – Red Jacket Firearms, LLC. However, this new company was not under the name of Will Hayden and was instead Vincent Buckles, registered as a ‘confidential business decision’.
TV Debut – Sons of Guns
Stephanie Hayden made her TV debut when the “Sons of Guns” series premiered in 2011. The show revolves around Stephanie’s father’s shop, Red Jacket Firearms, LLC, with his customers and gunsmiths. Red Jacket not only produces firearms, but also sells weapons such as swords, knives and cannons. The show featured warning viewers not to attempt scenes featured in it. In addition, no specific details on the production and modification of weapons were presented.
“Sons of Guns” aired for five seasons until its cancellation in 2014, when Will Hayden was charged with sexually abusing a minor.
Regarding this scandal, Discovery Channel Explained“Given the serious and appalling nature of the charges against Will Hayden, we have decided to stop further production of ‘Sons of Guns’ and cancel the series.”
Records of the series on the networks’ website were removed, including episode availability. Despite this, Stephanie denied rumors of cancellation on a post on her official Facebook.
Red Jacket distanced itself from the Hayden scandal, as stated in a statement on their official website: “Red Jacket Firearms LLC has initiated and received the full legal separation as an entity, from William M. Hayden. It is with a heavy heart that we will continue our business and ensure the fulfillment of new customer orders, reorders and provide support to those affected by these new developments.”
There is no information about the current circumstances of Red Jacket, although the website is currently inactive.
Private life
Allegations of Sexual Abuse
Will Hayden was accused of sexually assaulting his youngest daughter, who was 12 years old at the time. The teenage girl stated that Will raped her from the age of 11 and received threats from him if she reported him to authorities.
Hayden denied the allegations against him, stating that his ex-girlfriend and the girl’s mother retaliated for the end of their relationship. Hayden was arrested by the East Baton Rouge sheriff in August 2014, though he was later released after paying $150,000 bail.
At first, Stephanie Hayden defended her father: “There was never any impropriety in our house. He was and is a good father’. But in an interview with dr. Philo, Stephanie has confessed that she was also sexually abused by her father, in an incident that occurred when she was 12 years old. Drunk Will Hayden reportedly entered her bedroom and began violently touching her inappropriately: “He continued to kiss my chest. Once that was done I jumped back and he just left and he never touched me like that again’.
Her father’s actions caused young Stephanie to be extremely afraid of him, constantly carrying knives for self-defense.
The allegations were dismissed by Will’s lawyer, who accused Stephanie of lying: ‘After 45 shows and 20 years, this is the first time I’ve heard of them. Her complaints only arose after her income from the show and (gun) shop stopped. She’s still Will’s daughter and he loves her.’
In 2017, Will Hayden was found guilty of aggravated rape and will receive three life terms plus 40 years in prison for his crimes.
