The Recruit (Season 1) Recap
Recruit’s first season kicks off with Owen Hendricks, a recent graduated law student who is hired by the General Counsel of the CIA in Langley, Virginia. When he arrives at work, he does what any other person would do: he tries to figure out how the place works.
However, it does doesn’t seem to be an easy ride for him because everyone seems to be trying to prevent him from getting comfortable in his new work environment.
As a new recruit, his senior colleagues assign him the arduous task of going through several files with letters of people threatening to divulge sensitive intelligence details.
While he believes it to be a clear case of extortion, the job requires him to go through each individual letter and determine whether the claim is valid or not.
The Recruit (2022) review
The recruit tries one new look at the CIA operations by portraying the officers as more than just pure angels, while also depicting the internal politics going on within their organization.

These people try sabotage the job of others whom they should ideally mentor based on their personal interests and career opportunities.
While one of the officers has a panic attack, he observes how people leave because of constant fear are also seen as targets to be blamed for later. Such images are both hilarious and intense.
Owen, a ‘new fish in the pond’, tries to find his way early days at the CIA using the ‘fake it till you make it’ strategy. He exudes a false sense of bravado that seems to be drawn from an image of how he imagines people speaking of such secretive government agencies.
Unfortunately, Noah Centineoas an actor, seems a parody of his character in attempting to carry out this act of forgery.
It reminded me of a guy filming someone behaving inappropriately in his office and mistaking it for the sets of Succession! Noah’s personality is infinitely sympathetic, but his character as a CIA agent is incredible.
The season that follows the tumultuous Owen journey is easy. Still, the element of mystery is handled in a haphazard way that makes you lose interest in the story early on.
