Motley Crue, an American heavy metal band, has revealed that guitarist John 5 will be joining the band on tour after the band’s founder and guitarist Mick announced his retirement. Mick Mars retired due to ankylosing spondylitis condition. Although Mars remains a member of the band, his illness prevents him from touring. Meanwhile, Motley Crue bassist Nikki Sixx has said John 5 will complement the other band members perfectly. He said it’s someone they know and like because they’d worked together before.
In response to a fan’s question on Twitter why they chose John 5, Sixx said:
“He ticks every box. He’s a crazy player. Has respect for our music, is hilarious and has a history with us as we made some very big singles together.
Motley Crue and English rock band Def Leppard will tour together in 2023.

Why did Mick Mars announce his retirement?
Mick Mars, the band’s founding guitarist, decided to retire after suffering from ankylosing spondylitis, an arthritic condition.
According to the band’s official statement:
Mick Mars, co-founder and lead guitarist of heavy metal band Motley Crue for the past 41 years, revealed today that he will no longer be able to perform with the band due to his ongoing excruciating battle with Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS ).”
The statement went on to say:
“Mick remains in the band, but he can no longer bear the rigors of the road.” AS is a degenerative disease that affects the spine and is extremely painful and devastating.”
Mars was diagnosed with the condition when he was 17 years old. It hindered his mobility and caused a lot of pain. In late 2004, the artist underwent hip replacement surgery, which worsened his condition, causing his lower back to cramp and freeze. It also caused scoliosis on his back and crushed him down and forward, making him three inches shorter than he was in high school.
