As is often the case with Hollywood celebrities, Maggie Carey’s relationship with Bill Hader – an American actor, director and writer – famously brought her into the public eye. However, Carey already had a certain reputation in the industry herself, with a fascinating history involving her involvement in the film and entertainment industry, and more unusually, her career as a Division 1 athlete during her college days. Bill Hader and Maggie Carey were what many considered the perfect Hollywood couple, and their subsequent separation and divorce broke the hearts of many – not least the couple themselves.

Early life and family
While it is often said that little is known about a celebrity’s childhood and family, in the case of Maggie Carey, this is no exaggeration. There is little to say beyond the fact that she was born on May 28, 1975 in Idaho, USA, where she grew up and went to school. Her parents’ names have not been released, nor do we know if she has any siblings. She worked as a lifeguard at the local Borah Pool, an experience she would later use as inspiration for the movie “The To-do List”.
Education
Maggie lived her entire schooling in her hometown – she attended Jackson Elementary School before graduating from West Junior High School.
Apparently she was an extremely proactive student, who enjoyed participating in student activities. She was a conscientious student who, in her own words “was possible in every Ap class.” She also enjoyed a coveted role on the student council. In addition to being a highly skilled student, Carey showed her versatility on the football field as a dedicated and skilled player. She matricated Borah High School in 1993.
The second half of Carey’s training journey was nomadic to her sheltered childhood. Maggie attended the University of Montana, where she pursued two of her passions: English and soccer, and was the co-captain of the university’s Division 1 soccer team.

She graduated in 1997 with a bachelor’s degree in English literature. Always striving to progress in her studies, she then enrolled at the University of Texas where she graduated with an MFA in film production, although the exact year of her graduation is not specified.
Career
Maggie Carey has impressive acting and directing repertoire. She settled in comedy and gained as much experience as she could before entering the elite film industry.
Upright Citizens Brigade Theater
Carey began this new phase of her life by moving to Chelsea, New York and joining the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater (USB), focused on the art of improvisation, which for a few years (1998 – 2000) even had its own sketch on ‘Comedy Central’.
While part of the troupe, Carey experimented in various improv sketches and became a regular and much-loved actor. She also performed at the Improv Olympics West Theater in Los Angeles.
Acting and directing
Carey Bean leaves the whimsical theater life and makes forays into the movie entertainment space. In 2001, she debuted in “Occam’s Razor: The Great Dialogues of Mindy” as the character Brenda Gibson, a key member of the cast. That same year, she also began to put her education to work, writing and directing the film “Ladyporn,” which won the SXSW Award that year.
She then teamed up with fellow comedian and actress Liz Cackowski to produce an online comedy series titled “The Jeanie Tate Show” in 2007. This caught the attention of the popular HBO network, which obtained the right to turn the series into a TV show. just one of the awards the show received. This paved the way for Carey to work with the network on a later project – “Funny or Die Presents”. Carey enjoyed a busy career that gave her the opportunity to work on popular projects, such as directing for the Brooklyn 99 series, both on a team and as a leader.
She cemented her name in the industry when she wrote and directed the film “The To Do List” in 2013, drawing on her own experiences as a teenager in Idaho.
Since the film’s original title was somewhat controversial, it faced a lot of resistance from production companies. She now produces and directs comedy shows for Primetime Media, with multiple credits to her name.
Private life
Maggie met her famous husband, Bill Hader, through a mutual friend who hosted a local comedy show that featured Bill. Maggie attended the rehearsals and shows, and something about the shirtless actor’s humor and acting drew her to him; they married on May 28, 2006 after dating for two years. The two worked together on several projects, including the HBO show “Funny or Die Presents” and her movie “The To Do List”.
Rumor has it that Hader’s sex scene in the film was some sort of complicated thank you from Maggie for agreeing to participate in the film.
The two went on to have three daughters – Hannah Kathryn on October 6, 2009, Harper on July 28, 2012, and Hayley Clementine on November 15, 2014. However, the couple’s relationship began to wane as they became folly to a common factor in Hollywood relationships. Bill Hader’s extremely busy schedule started to strain their relationship, and he even quit his job at SNL to spend more time with his family. This proved too little too late and the couple broke up in December 2017 and filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences. The divorce was finalized in May 2018.
Maggie Carey currently lives in Los Angeles with her children. There are no reports that Carey has entered into a new romantic relationship – she still appears to be recovering from her 11-year marriage. The same can’t be said of Hader who has been seen on dates and spent time with Rachel Bilson – who is said to have even visited and interacted with Bill’s family.
Appearance
Maggie Carey is fast approaching her fortieth birthday, but this is not visible at all in her appearance. Carey has maintained her good looks and her athletic history probably contributes to her slim and fit figure. Maggie Carey is 1.71 m tall and weighs 60 kg.
She has ice blue eyes and wears her shoulder length brown hair with varying length bangs. She always presents herself as well dressed and put together, without blatantly splurging on designer items.
Net worth and salary
Maggie Carey has an estimated net worth of over $1.7 million. This is on the low end in the entertainment industry, especially considering her ex-husband’s $12 million net worth. While they assumed she would receive a significant salary for her directing and writing work, Carey revealed that they received a minimal amount for “The To Do List” – just over $1 million. For the movie to really succeed, they had to enlist multiple favors from the entire entertainment community.
