Kim Kardashian’s jewelry just got a whole lot more regal. At Sotheby’s annual Royal & Noble auction on Wednesday, the SKIMS mogul, who is 42 years old, bought the diamond-encrusted amethyst Attallah cross pendant that Princess Diana wore.
The Kardashians star bid on the piece, which features square-cut amethysts and 5.25 carats of round-cut diamonds, winning it for $197,453 in the last five minutes. Sotheby’s notes this was “double the pre-auction estimate.”
“This is a bold piece of jewelry due to its size, color and style that can make a vibrant statement whether it be for faith or fashion – or even both,” Sotheby London’s Head of Jewelry, Kristian Spofforth, shared in a statement. “We are delighted that this piece has found new life in the hands of another globally renowned name.”

Tell sources PEOPLE that Kim is proud to own a beautiful piece of jewelry that the late princess used to wear. Kim will add the beautiful cross pendant to her growing collection of jewelry worn or owned by strong, famous women who have inspired her.
The late Princess of Wales wore the pendant many times, but the most famous time was at the Birthright charity gala in London in 1987, which raised money for the group’s work helping women during pregnancy and childbirth.
She wore the jeweled, flower-shaped pendant on a long pearl necklace with a royal purple velvet Victorian dress by Catherine Walker. Sotheby’s says in a press release that the piece of jewelry has been around for a long time. Court jeweler Garrard created the unique pendant in the 1920s.
Here’s some of the content we posted recently:
In the 1980s, the late Naim Attallah CBE, who had been the CEO of Asprey & Garrard, bought it. Princess Diana often borrowed the unique jewel from him. Sotheby’s press release states that the princess was the only person ever to wear the cross. Since her death, the cross has not been seen in public until now.
The group also says that Princess Diana and the jeweler had a close relationship, so close that in 1981 Diana chose her engagement ring from the house.
Kardashian has made headlines before for wearing pop culture stuff again. Last May, she broke the internet when she showed up at the 2022 Met Gala in the same crystal-encrusted Jean Louis gown Marilyn Monroe wore when she sang to John F. Kennedy on his birthday in 1962.

The famous champagne colored silk souffle dress was borrowed from the Ripley’s Believe It or Not Museum in Orlando, Florida. It had a form-fitting shape and a round neckline.
Kardashian did a lot to look like the Hollywood star. For example, she bleached her hair platinum blonde “for 14 straight hours” and went on a low-carb, sugar-free diet.
Though she received backlash for her weight loss and for wearing the iconic, delicate piece of clothing in the first place, Kardashian likened the transformation to an actor preparing for an on-screen role. the New York Times: “For me it was like, ‘OK, Christian Bale can do it for a movie role and that’s acceptable'” add, “Even Renée Zellweger arrived for a role. It’s all the same to me.”
