Grand Army is an American teen drama streaming television series created by Katie Cappiello and will premiere on Netflix on October 16, 2020.
It is loosely based on Cappiello’s Slut: The Play. The show was canceled after one season June 2021.

‘Grand Army’, despite having a plethora of characters, focuses on five individuals from different financial and cultural backgrounds and have vastly different personalities. The show takes the same social consciousness space as “Degrassi: The Next Generation” and examines it through the evolving perspective of adolescence.
Joey Del Marco (Odessa A’zion) is a free-spirited and outspoken young feminist from Stuyvesant Town.
Dominique Pierre (Odley Jean) is a therapist who comes from a poor Haitian immigrant family Eastern New York. Siddhartha Pakam (Amir Bacteria) is a second generation Hindu Indian born in Jackson Heights.
He tries to enroll in Harvard University as both a accomplished athlete and a brilliant student. Jason Jackson (Maliq Johnson) is a gifted saxophonist from Spanish Harlem.

“Grand Army” debuted on Netflix in October 2020, with a small but devoted following. “Grand Army” shares many similarities with the HBO original Euphoria in that it follows a group of teenagers who all deal with their own issues, but are bonded together by running in the same circles and attending the same school.
“Grand Army” delves into issues teens face on a dailysuch as the complexity of social media and Generation Z’s fear of school shootings and bombings.
All the characters deal with issues such as stress in AP class and relationship problems. However, the show takes a closer look at how each character’s trauma, race, culture, sexuality and gender affects how they are navigating through life and their experiences.
“Grand Army” is an ensemble piece.
But it was Joey Del Marco’s storyline that caught my attention.
Joey is played by Odessa Azion, an actrice. Joey is one outspoken feminist with a tight-knit group of friends, a romance simmering with Tim, another member of the group of friends, and a desire to be the captain of the dance team.
At first glance, viewers think Joey’s main storyline will revolve around her romance with Tims and her complex relationship with her father.

But then, in the middle of episode three, Joey was raped in the back seat of a taxi by two of her best friends. Tim, who was about to be her boyfriend, sits back and watches.
