Derek Lalonde began his coaching career in 1995 as an assistant coach at North Adams State College. He has worked as an assistant coach for Hamilton College, Lebanon Valley College, and the College of Liberal Arts in the NCAA III conference. He began representing schools and institutions at the NCAA conference in 2002. He has served as an assistant coach for the NCAA at Ferris State University and the University of Denver.
Derek was hired as General Manager and Head Coach of the USHL League (United States Hockey League) in 2011. From 2011 to 2014, he was the head coach of the USHL. He holds a record of 114-56-8-6 while coaching the USHL League’s Green Gay Gamblers. In 2012, Gambler produced a record 47-9-2-2 and won the fourth Clark Cup win, earning him the USH Coach of the Year.
In 2014, he was named head coach of the Toledo Walley of the ECHL (Eastern Collegiate Hockey League).
