What do you get when you give a Seinfeld co-creator the keys to his TV show? What you get is one of the most twisted and satirical depictions of Hollywood you’ll ever see. Curb Your Enthusiasm is currently one of the most popular comedy series, although it started small and gained a cult following.
A staple of HBO for nearly 20 years, Curb returns for its 12th season. It’s no surprise that a new season of this show is in the works, given its huge audience and critical acclaim. The first episode of this critically acclaimed HBO series premiered in 2000 and immediately became a ratings phenomenon.
The audience immediately admired the cast’s ability to fly it. What these artists come up with on the spot is amazing. In addition to playing an important role as an actor, Larry David is also the show’s main writer and the leader of an exceptionally gifted writing staff.
The show has received high 80’s to low 90’s ratings on popular rating sites. Something like that happening this late in a show’s run is extremely rare. The show has come a long way from the rudimentary low-quality video of the first season to the remarkable production quality of the most recent season.

What is Curb Your Enthusiasm?
Curb Your Enthusiasm premiered on October 15, 2000. The sitcom is produced by HBO and is available on HBO Max. David portrays an alternate reality himself. After his huge success with Seinfeld, he struggles – and fails – to replicate that success elsewhere.
David, a semi-retired man, regularly puts himself in dangerous situations, some of which are not his fault and others he creates. While much of the action takes place in Los Angeles, Season 8 takes center stage in New York City.
David has a large following among Hollywood’s elite and regularly encounters fictionalized versions of real celebrities (always played by themselves). Much of what happens on Curb Your Enthusiasm is just the gritty particulars of mundane, day-to-day social interactions (which end in the most absurd ways when David gets involved).

Performers portraying flawed characters are often featured prominently. One of the reasons the program is so successful is because of the cast’s ability to improvise. The actors are only given a general idea of the plot and then are free to make the magic happen through retroscripting.
The show is an adaptation of a mockumentary David made for HBO in 1999 under the same name. The plan developed into a series of 12 seasons and it looks like it will continue to develop in a positive direction. With 51 Primetime Emmys, a Golden Globe, and a slew of other nominations, this show is clearly a hit with audiences.
Will there be a season 12?
There will be a season 12 of the show. There will be no abrupt endings due to cancellations, series finales or extended interruptions. After the eleventh season’s ratings improved to HBO’s satisfaction, an extension was approved.
HBO VP Amy Gravitt recently said, “Larry outdoes himself season after season and always manages to come back when audiences need him most.” This is about the upcoming season. The next season has to be amazing and extremely chilling to live up to such high expectations.
Like our beloved Seinfeld creator, HBO stated on social media that David will not apologize for anything. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, showrunner Jeff Schaffer said the writers always prepare like it’s the last season. They filmed a scene where David dies because they wanted to “prepare like it was the last one,” but David isn’t ready to die yet, so Season 12 is still in the works.
If all goes according to plan, the show will premiere in early 2023. The script is essentially complete, but there’s still a lot of filming and production to do.
Curb Your Excitement Season 12: Which Actors Are Returning?
The new season continues with the same core cast. Anyone who regularly appears on the show enjoys working with David and HBO, so their return is a given. The new episodes will be unforgettable because of the amazing supporting cast that includes Jeff Garlin, Cheryl Hines, Susie Essman, Richard Lewis, Susie Greene, Vince Vaughn, Ted Danson and JB Smoove.
David stars as a co-executive producer (with showrunner Schaffer and producer Jeff Garlin). The fact that these famous people play fictionalized versions of themselves on the show also makes for some great meta jokes about the current state of the entertainment industry.
In all 10 episodes, you can count on these actors to always be there. The average running time of an episode is between 30 and 60 minutes. The plethora of guest stars on this show is also a major selling point. Here are some of the best we miss:
Shaquille O’Neal: David injures Shaq on the track in an accident during the second season. It’s hysterical to see the former NBA player doing stand-up comedy. An entire episode in Season 8 is dedicated to Michael J. Fox and his celebrity status.
David and Fox go head to head after realizing they share a common enemy. In the words of Lin-Manuel Miranda: universal fan favorite. Season nine contains an episode featuring Alexander Hamilton playing himself. The show culminates in a paintball fight between the two protagonists if that’s anything to go by.

No one knows who the mystery guest stars of Season 12 of Curb Your Enthusiasm will be, as the show is notoriously secretive about its guest star appearances. No doubt we will meet David again; at this point we can only say for sure that he will (hopefully) wear pants.
Season 11 Finale: “The Mormon Advantage”
Here’s a recap of the season 11 finale in case you missed it or want to catch up on the season 12 premiere but didn’t catch up. (There are huge spoilers ahead.) David had previously offered Councilor Irma (played by Tracey Ullman) a place to stay at his house in an attempt to persuade her to vote against a bill that would ban the use of fences around swimming pools.
After an argument with Leon, she presents David with an impossible choice: she or Leon must stay in the house. When all else fails, Leon goes to stay with Jeff and Susie. Susie agrees to let Leon stay with her and David if she can arrange a party for Alexander Lindman.
After speaking with Alderman Melinda’s Mormon husband, David asks him if he likes polygamy. David is on his way to a Vindman event at LA’s Holocaust Museum when he messes up his sneakers with dog feces. To solve the problem, he takes a pair of shoes belonging to Holocaust victims from an exhibition.
During the ceremony, David discovers the Mormon husband, Micah, chatting with a woman who is not his wife. Know what David said about polygamy, Melinda eventually decides to oppose David’s advocacy of fencing legislation.
David calls Melinda to ask for her forgiveness and offers to make a financial contribution to the LDS Church. Lindman, eavesdropping on the conversation, wants to whistle at another council member. He is also aware that David took the footwear.
Irma’s grandfather, whose shoes were found, died several years ago. Meanwhile, David makes every effort to obtain the files that Vindman handed over to Councilor Weinblatt. He has the papers in hand when he tumbles into Weinblatt’s pool. When the council votes on whether or not to repeal the pool fence law, the result is a tie.
