A horrific accident involving the London-born midfielder took place near the Miami Marine Stadium. Anton Walkes, a 25-year-old Charlotte FC midfielder who previously played for Tottenham and Portsmouth, was killed in a boating accident.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has reported that the London-born midfielder was involved in a fatal accident near the Miami Marine Stadium. After receiving help at the scene, Walkes was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
David Tepper, the owner of Charlotte FC, posted a statement on the team’s website in which he wrote: “Everyone at Tepper Sports & Entertainment is devastated by the tragic passing of Anton Walkes. He was a wonderful son, father, partner and teammate whose joyful approach to life touched everyone he met.
“Anton made those around him better people in all areas of life and represented Charlotte FC at the highest level both on and off the field. He will be greatly missed by many and our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Anton at this heartbreaking time. The club offers its full support to all those affected during this period of mourning.”

Sporting director Zoran Krneta added: “We are heartbroken by the loss of Anton Walkes, a truly incredible father, loving person and an outstanding human being.”
“Anton epitomized what it means to be a part of Charlotte Football Club and our entire community mourns this tragedy. The impact he made in the locker room and throughout Charlotte will never be forgotten. We think of his dear family at this time and will fully support them in every way imaginable.”
Aged just 16, Walker joined Tottenham and made his debut for the club in September 2016 League Cup match against Gillingham. He spent time on loan at both Atalanta United and Portsmouth, the latter of which eventually signed him on a permanent basis. In 2021, Walkes was taken by Charlotte in the expansion draw and he started 21 of 23 games in total.
