Hyperthermia was the cause of death of two young girls who were left in a hot car in Wake County last August, according to an autopsy report released Wednesday night. It is alleged that 29-year-old Launice Battle killed her two young daughters, Trinity Michelle Milbourne and Amora Lou Milbourne, aged 2 and 3 respectively.
It has been confirmed through an autopsy that the children were left in a car behind Vegas Style Sweepstakes and Entertainment (5540 Atlantic Springs Road) on August 27, 2022 while their mother gambled in. The girls were reportedly left in the car from 2:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. when the temperature was a scorching 95 degrees and the sun was directly overhead.
According to the autopsy, the girls had overheated in the car, despite being parked in a somewhat shady spot. They were discovered not breathing and without a pulse. According to the allegation, Battle was the one who took the two girls to the emergency room at Duke Raleigh Hospital. Despite medical resuscitation attempts, both girls tragically passed away.
According to WRAL news‘s research, it took Battle 30 to 45 minutes to arrive at the hospital with the children after leaving the competition. The article states that the oldest sister, Amora was born prematurely and suffers from several health issues including heart disease. In June 2021Amora required a gastrostomy tube due to swallowing difficulties and hospitalization for respiratory failure.

Battle first appeared in court in August when her bail was refused. The grand jury investigating the deaths of Battle’s two children in October indicted her on two counts of murder. Battle’s relatives have referred to the daughters’ deaths as one “careless error.” “She was always there. She is a caring and loving mother to her children at the end of the day. She’s not a cold-blooded killer. She’s not a murderer,’ said Battle’s cousin Keisha Harris.
Harris added that her loved ones are heartbroken and confused by the events leading up to the death of the two small children. “She was just a young girl, maybe she had depression or whatever,” Harris said. “She just made a bad decision. In the end, she was a good mother to those girls.”
Lisacious Williams, another cousin, echoed this sentiment, saying the family was left speechless. “We love Launice no matter what and we will support her no matter what. This was a careless mistake’ Williams said in a message. Birth records reveal that Haven Gabriel, Battle’s son, was born in August 2016. According to assumptions, Haven was with his father.

Many people in the Cary neighborhood of Battle knew she was a single parent, but police claimed they never received any reports of abuse or neglect in her home.
