Owlchemy Labs today unveiled a new, untitled project at Gamescom – a VR-based multiplayer title with controller-less hand tracking. The company revealed the title in a short three-player teaser trailer.

According to Owlchemy, the game was built from the ground up with hand-tracking in mind. It will contain “quirky characters” [and] rich interactivity,” the company says. It will reveal more details about the project in the coming months.

Devon Reimer, CEO of Owlchemy Labs, said in a statement: “Hand tracking has enabled an unprecedented level of communication between players. Bundle this new technology with players experiencing our quirky worlds with friends and you have all the ingredients for a magical VR experience. Our studio has nearly tripled since the launch of Cosmonious High. Owlchemy appreciates trying new things and our next project will allow us to push VR to new heights.”

Andrew Eiche, COO of Owlchemy, added: “The first time we saw and used our own hands in VR, we realized that this is the future of the platform. Hand tracking lowers the barrier to entry into VR, making games more accessible and intuitive for more people. Playing games is much more fun when you use your own body as a controller. Ever since we launched Job Simulator, VR players are asking for a multiplayer game from Owlchemy. With our next project, friends can enjoy the classic Owlchemy experience together, where hand tracking opens the door to a whole new world of VR interactions.”
