“We’re pleased to confirm that the new Bing runs on GPT-4 modified for search,” said a blog post from Yusuf Mehdi, Microsoft’s head of consumer marketing. “If you’ve used the new Bing in preview at any point in the past six weeks, you’ve already had a first look at the power of OpenAI’s latest model.”
The AI-powered Bing chatbot provides summarized answers to your searches in a way that’s meant to feel more conversational than a list of blue links. Microsoft has previously said the new Bing will be powered by what it called the “Prometheus” model, but it was unclear until now whether it took advantage of GPT-4.
The new Bing will take advantage of OpenAI’s future improvements to “GPT-4 and beyond,” says Mehdi. The company is also relaxing the limits it has placed on the Bing AI chatbot to prevent strange behavior; users can now have 15 turns per session and up to 150 per day, according to Bing CVP Jordi Ribas.
