Something about this particular October didn’t really feel like October to me. Oh, the fall temperatures are starting to set in, and I see pumpkins by the bushel in every store. But I’m in the mood for ghosts, and the game industry didn’t seem to be quite forthcoming this month. Then Konami popped in with new games in the revived Silent Hill franchise, and that provided enough spooky fodder to keep me going for a while. My favorite of the games featured was the mysterious “Silent Hill F”, if only because the trailer looks like a new twist on the franchise (and no small amount of trypophobia bait).

Just hours later, Capcom held its own event where it revealed details about the upcoming Resident Evil titles. Gaming’s other long-running, much-loved horror franchise revolves around DLC and remakes this time around. For example, Resident Evil Village’s Rose-centric expansion will launch in a few days and will also get a third-party mode (no, you still can’t see Ethan’s face). But the big draw was the gameplay of the Resident Evil 4 remake, which Capcom revealed through the iconic village battle at the start of the game. It looks promising atmospheric, and that’s all I can really ask for.

As a Bayonetta fan, I would fail to address the ongoing controversy over voice acting. Two conflicting versions of the story have come to light: that of former Bayonetta voice Hellena Taylor, and that of Bloomberg and VGC reports. As of today, Platinum Games released a statement says it supports Jennifer Hale in the role and asks that “people please refrain from further comments that disrespect Jennifer or any of the other contributors to the series.” This is probably the most we will officially hear on this subject. However, I hope the conversation about paying voice actors in the gaming industry continues.
