From Software’s Elden Ring won Game of the Year at the Game Awards 2022. It won several other awards at the ceremony, including Best RPG, Best Art Direction, and Best Game Direction.

Competitors in the category included God of War Ragnarok (who won several other awards), Stray (who won two indie awards), A Plague Tale: Requiem, Xenoblade Chronicles 3, and Horizon Forbidden West.

Previous winner Josef Fares (It Takes Two) presented the award to Souls creator Hidetaka Miyazaki after a live orchestra played scores from each nominated game. Miyazaki expressed his gratitude for the award and said he plans to make more interesting games in the future.

Elden Ring has delivered exceptional sales throughout the year. The game has dominated the charts since its release. While some of the other nominated games have also done well, none have proven to have the popularity and staying power of Elden Ring.
