Tran’s ex-wife, who declined to be identified in her interview, said the suspect had given impromptu dance lessons at the Star Ballroom. She revealed that Tran had no significant history of violence, appalled by the suspect’s behavior. She did admit that he had a tendency to get angry.
Chester Chong, a representative of the China Chamber of Commerce, speculated in an interview with ABC that the shooting was the result of a domestic disagreement, as Tran’s ex-wife is thought to have been at a New Year’s party in the dance hall when the murders took place . .
