On October 4, 1989, Dequantes Devontay Lamar was born in the city of Atlanta, Georgia. He attended Ronald McNair High School and played competitive baseball for nearly four years while studying there. From an early age, he was also drawn to reading and creative writing.
He wanted to become a professional center fielder and lead-off hitter. He was able to get a scholarship to Fort Valley University and played college football while still a freshman. However, he immediately changed his mind and started taking rapping more seriously. He accepted a position at an airport, but soon lost it.
