Chandler made her start in the entertainment world as a dancer, saying in a Refinery29 interview that she dreamed of dancing professionally, and didn’t even consider acting at the time. She started dancing at the age of three and was trained at the Debbie Allen Dance Academy and the Los Angeles Ballet Academy. She also received a scholarship to attend the Kirov Academy of Ballet in Washington, DC.

From the age of ten she also trained in the martial art of Taekwondo and at the age of thirteen she obtained her first degree black belt.

Because of her shooting schedule for “Lethal Weapon,” Chandler did not attend a “normal high school” for most of her high school career, but rather what has been described as an independent high school extension. Once a week she met a teacher and then did her schoolwork on the set or at home.

In May 2018, she graduated from Oak Park Independent School in California and was accepted to study at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). She is currently studying at the Marine Cooper School of Acting to train in acting and dancing.

Act

Chandler started acting from the age of nine in TV commercials and a few plays. Her first professional venture, however, was at Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City for GAP, the largest US clothing retailer. She said she loved her experience on the set of the commercial so much, and realized she wouldn’t mind doing more projects like this, so she decided to take acting classes to improve her performance. Speaking about her move from dancing to acting, she said, “…I just fell in love with it. I fell in love with the craft of acting. The rest is a kind of history.’

In 2012, Chandler had her first major role as Chantel in Chris Stokes’ dance film ‘Battlefield America’. The following year, she guest-starred on TV shows “90210” as Olivia, and “American Horror Story” as an elderly Julia in an episode titled “Madness Ends”. Set in modern-day Los Angeles, it follows new detectives Roger Murtaugh and Martin Riggs (played by Clayne Crawford), who are quite different from each other; the show is based on the 1987 film of the same name starring Danny Glover and Mel Gibson, with many characters based directly or loosely on characters from the film.

The show ran from September 21, 2016 to February 26, 2019, when Damon Wayans announced his departure from the show, forcing Fox to cancel the series.

Chandler has said she loved working on the series and is a true fan of it. “Initially I was drawn to ‘Lethal Weapon’ because of its perfect balance of comedy, actio and drama, and the fact that it would offer something for everyone. There aren’t many shows that have an equal mix of the three, so that was definitely something that stood out and attracted me to the project.” She added that she was excited about being able to play a confident, outspoken and slightly rebellious character like Riana.
