Octavia E. Butler’s novel “Kindred” has been adapted into a television series by FX. Described as a “grim fantasy,” it follows Dana (Mallori Johnson), a young woman who recently moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career as a television writer.
Shortly after moving into her new home, she encounters strange events that seem to bring her back to the American South of the 19th century. What she thinks is a vivid dream sequence becomes a new reality as it becomes more frequent.
