Manwell is best known as one of the three vocalists of the Christian hip-hop band Group 1 Crew. It was founded in 2003 by Manwell, Pablo Villatoro and Blanca Callahan, who were the band’s vocalists and rappers. In 2013, Blanca left after becoming pregnant, and several people joined the following year, including Sarah Sandoz (vocals), Lance Herring on guitar, Loren ‘Snoopy’ Clark on bass guitar, and Brian Ramey on drums.

Manwell met Anjelah Johnson at one of his band’s 2009 gigs – they started talking at the club where he was performing, exchanged phone numbers, and went out on a date a few days later. Anjelah initially did not tell Manwell about her acting career, but wanted to wait to surprise him later. After two years together, the two married on June 11, 2011 in Half Moon Bay, California, in a grand ceremony with their wide circle of friends and entire family present, and spent their honeymoon in Europe.
