Early life and family

Kristina Sunshine Jung was born on August 1, 1978 in the USA. Her parents are the notorious drug smuggler George Jung, who was a member of the Medellin cartel, and his ex-wife and drug addict Mirtha Jung.

She had a difficult childhood because of the efforts of her parents.

Mirtha even used drugs during her pregnancy and remained a drug user until Kristina was three years old, when she was arrested for drug possession. At that time, she was already divorced from George, who was also sentenced to years in prison for his illegal activities. Because of this, Kristina was raised by her paternal grandparents, Ermine and Frederick Jung. For a long time they provided stability and security for her away from her parents. They would give her a new box of toys and clothes every year and did their best to give her a normal childhood.

When Kristina’s grandfather passed away, her custody passed to her aunt, Marie Jung, with whom she stayed until her 18th birthday. However, during her childhood, she had a good relationship with her mother who left drugs and beans to live a clean life for the sake of her daughter.

As of June 2020, there is no disclosed information about Kristina’s exact birthplace and the schools she attended.

“Blow”

In 2001, the movie “Blow” was released, starring Johnny Depp, Penelope Cruz and Franka Potente, which focused on the life story of George Jung, his wife and his daughter.

The film was nominated for an Academy Award and put the Jung family back in the news. Kristina herself appeared in a deleted scene in the film, as one of the people in the courtroom. In the film, Kristina was played by Emma Roberts.

The film was based on Bruce Porter’s book “Blow: How a Small Town Boy Made $100 Million with the Medellin Cocaine Cartel and Lost It All”, which was published in 1993.

George Jung was a major figure in illegal cocaine smuggling in the 1970s and early 1980s. He became a big name in the cartel after he started working with his former cellmate, Carlos Lehder.

The two became the leaders of one of the first and largest drug smuggling operations between Colombia and the US — smuggling about 80% of the world’s cocaine in the early 1980s. George was arrested several times for his activities – eventually he was detained in 1994 in Topeka, Kansas, USA, and sentenced to 60 years in prison. Jung was released in 2014 after serving 20 years, but has since had at least one minor arrest.

According to the film, Kristina never visited her father in prison, despite his constant wishes and pleas, and their relationship was distant, unlike her relationship with her mother Mirtha.

George Jungo

However reports state: that their relationship improved after the film and that Kristina made her first visit in 2002, a year after the film came out. She remained a regular visitor until he was released in 2014, and is said to be one of the first people to give him a ‘phone call’.

George Jung’s life was described in other books, such as Al Cimino’s “Drug Wars: the Blood Reign of Mexican Cartels” and William Rodriguez-Abadia’s “Yo Soy El Hiro Del Cartel De Cali”.

Private life

Kristina married Romain Karan and they have a daughter they named Athena Romina Karan. The couple has been living in California since June 2020.

Almost nothing is known about their private lives as they stay out of the limelight, but they have lived in several California cities, including San Mateo, Millbrae, Concord, and Walnut Creek.

She is active on the social media platform Instagram, on which she has more than 35,000 followers. Although her profile is private, it is noticeable that she no longer has any issues with who her father is, as her caption calls her the “Smuggler’s Daughter.” She even created her own clothing line – Smuggler’s Daughter Wear (aka Boston George Apparel and Merchandise) – and sells various items of clothing with captions like “Cocaine express” and “Blow”.

She often expresses her gratitude to her grandparents on her Instagram posts.

Kristina also has a Facebook profile, but she hasn’t been very active on it in recent years.

Contrary to her childhood, Kristina seems to be much closer to her father than to her mother over the past decade, at least in public. One of the reasons for this may be that Mirtha Jung refuses public appearances and tries to lead a private life.

Kristina is under police custody on drug charges.

Kristina is a poet and writer; she would be working on a book that will describe her mother’s life.

Net value

Since her father George Jung lost all his fortune when he was arrested in 1994, Kristina would never have taken advantage of her father’s illegally acquired wealth. On the other hand, she runs a fairly successful business that sells merchandise, including various items of clothing. On the other hand, the movie “Blow” made a lot of money, but it is not known whether the Jung family made any money from it. The film was made on a budget of $53 million but grossed over $83 million at the box office. As of June 2020, her net worth is estimated around $150,000.
