PENTAGON’s Hongseok was prematurely discharged from military service due to health problems

Hongseok, the heartthrob of the nonet K-Pop boy band PENTAGON, has been given an early departure from compulsory military service due to ill health. CUBE Entertainment issued a press release on December 26, 2022, announcing that the idol had been discharged from the military due to his worsening depression and panic problem. The message also apologized to all Hongseok supporters for the upsetting news.

Hongseok enlisted in the army in May 2022. According to a statement from his agency on April 1, the group’s 28-year-old heartthrob will begin his required military service in May. The press release also stated that the location and time of entry will remain private due to the tight COVID-19 policies in place at the time.

Hongseok, a well-known musician from K-Pop powerhouse PENTAGON, has been discharged from the military after just eight months of service due to his deteriorating mental health, which needs urgent medical treatment. Fans were made aware of this via a press release revealing Hongseok’s military classification and the artist’s health status. According to the statement:

“Hello. Cube Entertainment is who we are. Hongseok, a PENTAGON member, was categorized for the wartime labor service and was medically discharged from the military.”

Moreover, according to the release, the idol may be suffering from melancholy and panic disorder in addition to agoraphobia, which he had since before his military service began. There stood:

“Hongseok underwent constant therapy and counseling throughout his military service for symptoms of depression and panic disorder with agoraphobia that he has suffered ever since. However, when his symptoms worsened, the military determined that he could not sustain military life and therapy at the same time, so he was medically discharged.”

Finally, the post apologized to fans and promised to put the artist’s recovery first:

“We regret any concerns we have had as a result of the unexpected news and will continue to do our utmost to keep Hongseok focused on therapy.”
