All about Neal Currey

Neal Currey was the creator of Ready Gunner, one of the country’s best-known full-service gun stores. He was successful in business, mainly because of his family heritage. Currey’s grandfather, Jack, started a whitewater rafting business on the San Juan River in southern Utah in the 1950s. The rafts are still used today on major rivers. Steve, Neal’s father, took over the family business in Idaho, taking clients along the Selway and Middle Fork of the Salmon Rivers.

Neal Currey followed his father on the river trips and by the time he was 24 he had seen every continent. Neal said he started rowing luggage boats when he was 14 years old. He worked in the family business for nearly ten years before embarking on his next adventure. He said,

โ€œThis was after September. 11. It was hard on me, like other Americans, and I felt compelled to act. It irritated me. “I wanted to help my country somehow.”

Currey enlisted in the Army on an Option 40 contract and was immediately assigned to the 75th Ranger Regiment. He joined the 2nd Ranger Battalion and attended Ranger School. He then enrolled in the 75th Ranger Regiment’s Pre-Ranger Course, which lasted three weeks. He made the decision to complete the last part of the land navigation in the next 24 to 36 hours, after which he could go home to rest. Neal Currey’s father was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer shortly after he returned to the 2nd Ranger Battalion and was sent to Afghanistan. He returned to Utah, buried his father, and accomplished everything in two days. As a member of the JSOC Task Force, he carried out action raids.

He eventually transitioned to contract work at Triple Canopy as a member of the Counter Assault Team abroad. He eventually chose to get a federal gun license and open a gun store in Utah. Ready Gunner is now a 20,000 square foot facility with a variety of shooting ranges and a monthly class schedule of two dozen programs.
