Before making music as a professional career, Eddie tried to join the police force, following in the footsteps of his father, grandfather and brother. He joined the New York City Department as an intern, but soon realized it wasn’t for him, as he wouldn’t see himself on the police force with short hair for the next 20 years; he also had no luck with his bandmates, because they didn’t want a legal representative in their band. He was married to Laurie Harris from 1989 until his death, and they had five children together. Eddie underwent heart valve surgery in July 2019, but contracted pneumonia after the surgery.
