Jake Hescock, former UCF Tight End, passed away at age 25

Jake Hescock who played tight end for UCF and Wisconsin died at the age of 25 after a heart attack, according to multiple reports. The Orlando Sentinel says Hescock suffered a heart attack while jogging in Boston on Sunday.

Before he was taken to hospital and put on a ventilator, someone on the street tried to resuscitate him. According to reports from his family on social media, Hescock suffered severe brain trauma before he died.

“It is with a heavy heart that I must say that my cousin Jake passed away.” Lisa Walz Mlynarczyk, Hescock’s cousin, wrote on Facebook. “May he rest in peace and forever shine his radiant soul upon us.”

When word got out that he had passed away, his old teammates and coaches were quick to pay him tribute. “We are heartbroken to hear of Jake’s passing,” UCF head coach Gus Malzahn wrote on Twitter.

“He was an incredible person who epitomized what it means to be a UCF Knight. Everyone who knew Jake loved him and he was a blessing to coach. He will be sorely missed. Kristi and I are praying for his entire family.”

The Wisconsin football team, where Hescock began his college career, also paid tribute to him on Twitter. “Saddened to hear of the passing of former Badger Jake Hescock. Taken from us too soon. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.” read the message.

Hescock was born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. Before transferring to UCF, he sat out with the Badgers. He graduated at the end of the 2021 season, with 21 passes, six of which were touchdowns.
