Joe Budden Early life
Budden was born on August 31, 1980in the East Harlem neighborhood of Upper Manhattan, New York City, New York, to Joseph Budden and Fay Southerland.
When he was thirteen, he and his mother and big brother moved to Jersey City, NJ, where he enrolled at Lincoln High School. During Budden’s childhood, his father was not in his life. He would later talk about this in his music.
Budden struggled as a child, so he was sent to a boarding school in North Carolina called the Laurinburg Institute. There he began to develop his skills as a rapper. After returning to Jersey, he started taking drugs and became addicted to angel dust.
After an emotional argument with his mother, Budden entered rehab alone on July 3, 1997. This was in exchange for his mother letting him go to his prom. Budden dropped out of high school and by the time he was 20 had a child with a woman older than him.
With the birth of his son approaching, Budden began to take his music more seriously. In 2001, he joined forces with producer Dub-B, also known as White Boy, and began releasing his first mixtapes and demos.
One of them ended up in the hands of DJ Clue, who was the host of Hot 97 and the head of Desert Storm Records.

Math Hoffa brings up the clip above and asks: “Is that part of podding? Say you’re bisexual?” Joe replies, “You don’t know if it’s me or not, but if it were me – but let’s talk about ‘I am’, what would be different about this room? What would be different about this situation?”

Joe Budden told him to mind his business and he got offended and asked “why do I have to mind my business?”
Why not? Just because someone is gay/bi doesn’t mean they’re looking at your dusty ass. Straight black men are so damn weird. Obsessing about other people’s sexuality pic.twitter.com/rhSQKS3TaH

Due to a $75 parking ticket, Budden spent the night in jail on March 30, 2012, missing a Slaughterhouse concert in his hometown. Budden turned himself in to police in 2014 after being accused of beating up his girlfriend and stealing her cell phone.
