Death and cause
Aaren died on August 26, 1979, less than a month before her second birthday. She fell into the pool at her home and was unconscious by the time she was found.
Paramedics were called and tried to resuscitate her before taking her to the University of California Medical Center – she was put on a ventilator but fell into a coma and died a few days later.
She is buried in Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City, Los Angeles.

Aaren spent the only two years of her life in California, where she, along with her siblings Arnelle L. Simpson and Jason Lamar Simpson, were raised by their father and mother Marguerite L. Whitley, who was a homemaker.

He was arrested on charges including battery and burglary in February 2001, and water too fast through a manatee conservation area on July 4, 2002. He was found guilty of 12 charges including theft, use of a deadly weapon and kidnapping on October 3, 2008, and after a retrial on December 5, 2008, was sentenced to 33 years behind bars – he was released on parole on October 1, 2017 released from prison.
