Information about the family and early education of Christopher Diamantopoulos has not been disclosed, although he is known to be of Greek descent and spent his childhood between Greece and Canada.

Chris graduated from the East York Collegiate Institute in Toronto. During his childhood, he started acting in theater and TV commercials and also practiced to become a classical singer.

Broadway

When Chris was 18 years old, he left his home in Toronto to perform on theater tours in Canada and the US. He eventually landed roles on Broadway, appeared in dramas such as the musical “Andrew Lloyd Webber – Music of the Night” in 1995, then starred as Ethan Girard in “The Full Monty” and in “Les Misérables” as Marius. When he auditioned for the part, Chris wore prosthetics and makeup that resembled Moe’s character, and he put a lot of effort into other aspects as well: “When I first heard about the role, I recognized that there are such differences in the way we’ reassembled. I’m quite slim and my face doesn’t look like his at all. It really became a study to stand in front of the mirror and change my attitude and my face and find out how this can work. It wasn’t until I bought a wig and put together a quilted suit to change my frame that I realized, “oh, I think I can make this happen”.’

Diamantopoulos’ enthusiasm for performing Moe’s character to the best of his ability was fueled by his own love for the original show: “We put so much work, effort and care into recreating the comedic style of a trio that, for me personally , the better part of the first 15 years of my life.’

In 2015, Becki was interviewed again by the US and shared some tidbits about her motherly life. She revealed that she often wore her daughter’s accessories to the gym, and carried washable markers and wipes with her while her son learned to write.

Chris has been suggested several times to change his name in his career. Proud of his Greek heritage, he has refused: ‘I’d be lying if I said I didn’t think of it’. He recalls that Kurt Russell suggested changing his name to “Chris D” to expand his marketability. “I have no doubt that he had a good point. I SERIOUSLY considered it, but in the end the change felt false.” (…) ‘I like to think that even if you can’t pronounce it, it’s memorable.’

Chris was also asked if he had any issues growing up with a surname like his: “I grew up in a predominantly Greek neighborhood, so Diamantopoulos was like Smith. Come to think of it, we made a lot of jokes about Steve Smith.”

Diamantopoulos accidentally injured himself physically while filming “The Three Stooges”: “I dislocated my shoulder during a scene, and had to re-enter the scene and punch Curly. We were done and that evening I went to the hospital. And I broke my finger trying to poke Larry in the eye.” Despite these mishaps, he enjoyed playing Moe’s character: “I had to be ice cold in my hands because it would hurt so much if I hit the boys. But, it was so much fun! I was a kid in a candy store.’
