Warren Christie is a Canadian actor, who has appeared in both television and movies and gained popularity playing various roles such as Ray Cataldo in ABC’s ‘October Road’, as Aidan Stivileto in ‘Happy Town’ and as Cameron Hicks in Syfy’s “Alphas.”

Early life and family

Hans Warren Christie was born on November 4, 1975 in Belfast, Northern Island, United Kingdom, but his family moved to London, Ontario, Canada before he turned two.

Education background

He graduated from the University of Windsor, having previously been recruited to play college football for their team. During his college years, he discovered an interest in acting, but did not pursue it until after graduation.

Career

First steps

Warren started his acting career playing minor roles, such as that of a security guard on Fox’s soap opera “Pasadena”, in 2001. The soap was praised by critics and watched by 4.3 million viewers, but only four of the 13 episodes aired because it was said that the American public was not ready to see something with a dark storyline like this just two weeks after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

In 2003, he had minor roles in several television series/miniseries, including ‘The Twilight Zone’, ‘The First to Die’ and ‘Black Slash’. The first time he played a character who starred in five episodes was in the unaired series “Still Life” (2003), starring Jensen Ackles.

He had recurring small roles on the ABC drama series “The Days” (2004), Showtime’s “The L Word” (2005) and Sci-Fi Channel’s “Battlestar Galactica” (2005).

His first film appearance was in the horror movie ‘The Thing Below’ in 2004. He was also part of the romantic comedy ‘Gray Matters’ (2006); the drama ‘Dress to Kill’ (2007); and the horror thriller “Beneath” (2008).

Further success

After landing guest starring roles on popular television series, including The WB’s Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles starrer “Supernatural” in 2006, and CBS’s Jennifer Love-Hewitt starrer “Ghost Whisperer” in 2007, he landed the role of Ray. “Big Cat” Cataldo, part of the main cast in ABC’s drama series “October Road”, which first aired March 15, 2007.

The pilot episode ranked #9 in ratings, but fell to the second and subsequent episodes with the season finale at #36 with 10.2 million viewers. The series ran for two seasons (2007-2008) with 19 episodes.

He landed starring roles in the Christmas movie ‘The Most Wonderful Time of the Year’ (2008), the horror thriller ‘Malibu Shark Attack’ (2009) and the suspense thriller ‘Ties that Bind’ (2010).

Warren was a regular cast member playing the character of Aidan “Greggy” Stivileto on ABC’s “Happy Town”, which premiered on April 28, 2010 and had low ratings with only 5.2 million viewers.

It continued to perform poorly until it was discontinued after six episodes and was officially canceled with the remaining two episodes made available online for those following the series.

He starred in the 2011 alternate history/sci-fi movie, “Apollo 18”, as Lunar Module Pilot Captain Benjamin “Ben” Anderson. The story was about the Apollo 18 actually landing on the moon but never returning, and lost footage of what happened to the crew was found, in found footage style. Although the critics gave mostly negative and unfavorable reviews, it was a financial success, grossing $25.5 million worldwide against its $5 million production budget.

His next project, “True Justice”, lasted for two seasons (2011-2012), but he was not part of the main cast until season one. This crime action drama series was created and its first season written by Steven Seagal, who also starred in it.

“Alphas”

On July 11, 2011, the sci-fi action-adventure series “Alphas” aired on the SyFy cable channel, with Christie playing the role of Cameron Hicks as one of the alphas. The story was about five people called alphas with superhuman abilities, who were part of a team led by the neurologist, Dr. Lee Rosen, played by David Strathairn, who investigate crimes they suspect were committed by other Alphas.

The series was co-created by Zak Penn, who co-wrote the story for “The Avengers” and the scripts for “X-Men: The Last Stand” and “X2”. The pilot episode was directed by Jack Bender, who directed several episodes of “Alias” (2001), “Lost” (2004-2010) and “Game of Thrones (2016). The critics gave mixed reviews, with some praising it for its “ingenuity, character-driven moments, and fast-paced storytelling”, while others criticized it for showing nothing new and giving it a “beta version” vibe.”Alphas” ran for two seasons with 24 episodes (2011-2012) with the season finale ended on a cliffhanger, much to the dismay of loyal fans.

Warren continued to be cast in leading and recurring roles, such as Sergeant Mark Cross in the medical drama “Motive” (2014-2016); as Will in the comedy-drama ‘Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce’ (2014-2017); as Scott Rice in the action drama ‘Chicago Fire’ (2015); and as Jude Silva in the medical drama “The Resident” (2018).

He was in 2019 NBC’s drama series ‘The Village’ which was canceled after one season; he was part of the main cast, playing the role of a former army ranger, Nick Porter, who lost his leg while touring Afghanistan. He appeared in a single episode of the horror series “50 States of Fright” (2020).

Private life

Warren met Sonya in 2005 and they started dating. He proposed to her at the Eiffel Tower, and they married in 2007. They currently live in Vancouver with their 10 year old son.

Sonya is a Canadian actress born in 1974 in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada, to Rainer Salomaa of Finnish descent and Claudia Ranchie. Her only sister, Tammy, is married with two children. She attended the University of Northern British Columbia to earn a bachelor’s degree in forestry, but it has not been disclosed if she graduated.

Salomaa received Best Supporting Performance by a Female in a Drama Series from Leo Awards for two consecutive years (2005-2006).

Her acting was again recognized in the drama series ‘Durham County’ where she played the role of Traci Prager in season one. She was nominated in 2008 for Best Supporting Performance by a Female in a Dramatic Series at the Leo Awards and Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Supporting Role in a Dramatic Series at the Gemini Awards.

She received another nomination from Leo Awards in 2018 for Best Lead Performance by a Female in a Motion Picture for her character as Jackie in the movie ‘The Space Between’.
