While many anticipate the news with excitement some are questioning the safety of twin pregnancies in women over 30. Women who were carrying twins were 45 years or older “largely healthy at baseline, with low incidence of obesity, hypertension and diabetes,” according to Doctor Nathan Fox of MFM Associates, who conducted the research.
An analysis of twin pregnancy outcomes in women age 45 or older was published in the National Library of Medicine. They concluded that twin pregnancies “Are associated with high rates of caesarean section, preeclampsia and gestational diabetes, but overall positive outcomes in a cohort of women who were mostly healthy and who were at least 45 years old when they gave birth.”
