“1899” A horror drama series coming soon to Netflix

The new historical horror drama series 1899 launches on Netflix on Thursday, November 17, 2022 at 3:01 AM ET. The show follows a group of immigrants aboard a ship sailing from London to New York. Their journey is hampered when they encounter another ship on their way. Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar, the creators of Netflix’s critically acclaimed sci-fi drama Dark, are in charge of the project. Emily Beecham plays a key role, as do many others.

The tension in the teaser is real, and it builds anticipation without revealing major narrative aspects or spoilers. The teaser features Jimi Hendrix’s acclaimed version of Bob Dylan’s All Along the Watchtower, adding an element of mystery, suspense and intrigue.

According to the storyline and teaser, viewers can expect another atmospheric horror drama along the lines of Dark. While the settings and plots are quite different, Dark and 1899 have certain visual aspects and style in common.

A brief look at the cast of 1899

Emily Beecham plays Maura Franklin in the movie 1899. Beecham looks fantastic in the series teaser, effortlessly capturing the many intricate elements of her character. A strong performance is expected from the actress. Beecham has starred in a number of notable films and television series over the years. To name a few: AMC’s Into the Badlands, the cult classic Hail, Caesar! and Daphne from the Coen Brothers.

Aneurin Barnard, Andreas Pietschmann, Maciej Musia and Miguel Bernardeau, among others, play crucial roles at Beecham. Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar, the creators of the show, are best known for their work on the acclaimed sci-fi series Dark. Set in a hamlet, Dark follows the events following the disappearance of two children.

In addition to Dark, Friese and her partner bo Odar worked on the critically acclaimed thriller Who Am I. Other films directed by Baran bo Odar include The Silence and Sleepless.
