Banking giant Wells Fargo has fired senior executive Shankar Mishra after reports he urinated on a woman sitting next to him on an Air India flight.
Deutsche Welle English (DW) reported that Mishra was stationed at the bank’s headquarters in Mumbai. On a November 26 flight between New York and New Delhi, he allegedly got so drunk that he urinated on the person sitting next to him in first class, a 72-year-old woman.
DW quoted from a Wells Fargo statement about the firing. The company said it “holds employees to the highest standards of professional and personal conduct, and we find these allegations deeply troubling.”
Even if Mishra’s actions were arrestable offences, DW reported that the New Delhi Police said he was “at large”. So – he was not taken into custody after allegedly urinating on the woman, and after getting sober, cried and begged the victim not to press charges.
She reportedly requested Mishra’s arrest from the airport police, but said he was instead placed in front of her after the incident in a seat on the plane. She eventually found herself unable to take any further legal action after he showed great remorse for what he had done.
DW reported that India’s aviation enforcement agency was critical of Air India’s handling of the incident, stating that its behavior was apparently “unprofessional and led to systematic failure”.
Mishra’s legal representatives went so far as to provide evidence that Mishra had compensated the victim by paying for the cleaning of her clothes and luggage, presenting “WhatsApp messages between the accused and the lady” which “clearly show that the suspect had cleaned the clothes and bags”. .”
