Walgreens has said it sees a pharmacy shortage — and the company is reportedly willing to pay, CNN reported on Thursday.
A “person familiar with the matter” told CNN that signing bonuses at Walgreens can be various amounts, but they can be as high as $75,000.
The Wall Street Journal reported first the news of the skyrocketing signing bonuses.
Pharmacists earned an average salary of $128,570 in 2021, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. However, the industry in general, especially lower-paid pharmacy technicians, is struggling with a staffing problem, NBC News reported in December.
Walgreens also previously said it struggled to get a sufficient number of employees.
“There have been some instances where we have had to adapt to reduce pharmacy hours as we work to balance staff and resources in the market to best meet customer demand,” the company told. Fox 10 Phoenix.
The source added to CNN that the bonuses usually require people to stay in their positions, often for a year or more. Walgreens recently facing controversy online after some pharmacists reportedly refused to fill prescriptions for things like birth control, USA Today reported.
